Identity and Fraud Information

"Every 79 seconds, a thief steals someone's identity, opens accounts in the victim's name and goes on a buying spree."  - CBSnews.com

Tips to Outsmart Thieves

Do not give out personal information.  Whether its over the phone, internet, or mail, do not give out your bank acct info, credit card info, or social security info if you do not know who you are giving it too.

Protect your mail.  Tear up or shred any personal information that you are throwing away.  That includes bank statements, credit offers, billing statements, and receipts.  Do not leave mail in your mailbox.  Sign up for Online Banking and eStatements for extra security.

Guard your credit cards. Do not carry all your cards together at the same time.  Make photocopies of everything in your wallet, front and back. If your wallet gets stolen call your card companies immediately.

Pay attention to billing cycles.  A missed bill could mean someone has stolen your account information.

Keep personal information safe.  Keep a lockbox especially if you are having service work done or have a roommate.

Be smart about passwords and PINs. Do not use obvious combinations like your birth date or mothers maiden name. And do not share that information
