How to Make Hand Sanitizer
With concerns about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading, it’s becoming challenging to find sanitizing products in stores, particularly hand sanitizer. Fortunately, a home remedy is available as an alternative.
You’ll need two ingredients: aloe vera gel and isopropyl alcohol. Pay close attention to the alcohol level as it needs to be a 99 percent concentration. Lower concentrations of alcohol won’t be sufficient to reach the 60 percent threshold when mixed with other ingredients, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
How to create the mixture: Combine the ingredients using one part aloe vera for every two parts of isopropyl alcohol.
The homemade remedy is recommended for short-term use in place of limited supplies. Store-bought hand sanitizers have moisturizing chemicals added. Since the homemade solution does not contain the same chemicals, the skin can quickly dry out.
Using hand sanitizer should be a supplemental sanitation measure and should not replace frequent and routine handwashing with soap and water. You can follow-up with the CDC online for additional prevention and treatment recommendations concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
