Credit Union National Association CUNA Awards First Florida for Teen Financial Literacy Program

Award is First Florida's third national recognition in three years.

For Immediate Release: April 15, 2018

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — First Florida Credit Union recently received a 2018 Diamond Award from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) for Camp C.E.O., a summer camp the organization held to teach local teenagers about financial literacy.
Diamond Awards recognize exceptional marketing and business development achievements in the credit union industry. This was First Florida’s third such award in three years.

Camp C.E.O. stands for Chasing Economic Opportunity. It was a free, week-long camp that provided teenagers with a fun, interactive way to build their financial skills. Teenagers learned core financial concepts like budgeting, credit card management, and entrepreneurism through daily lessons and activities taught by credit union staff. The teens were tested on financial concepts before and after the camp, and they improved in 12 of 17 areas surveyed.

Camp C.E.O. is part of the credit union’s commitment to increasing financial education in the communities it serves, said Michelle Troha, First Florida’s senior vice president of marketing.

“At First Florida, we believe education is the key to growth — both in business and life,” Troha said. “The powerful lessons and engaging format of Camp C.E.O. served as an incredible way for us to reach the next generation.”

Diamond Award winners were presented at the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council Conference held on March 11 - 14 in San Francisco, Calif. More than 1,200 entries were submitted by credit unions across the country as they competed for awards in 35 categories, ranging from branding to financial education.
